London is the capital of the United Kingdom and England. It's been an influential city for two millennia and its history dates back to its founding by the Romans then named Londinium. The metropolis core, the ancient City of London, still keeps its limited medieval boundaries. Nevertheless, since at least the 19th century, the name "London" has as well referred to the whole city that has developed around it. Nowadays the majority of this urban sprawl builds the London region and the Greater London administrative region, with its own electoral mayor and assemblage.
